It's hard to list just one so i'll have to go with Homeless Veterans. To me it is appalling the way Veterans are treated and have been treated by our government. It seems everyday there are endless stories about homeless Veterans on TV. Thankfully most people have generous hearts and deep pockets.

I volunteer at a local Veterans hospital. A lot of these brave men/women don't have families and have all but been forgotten by our government. Some days I leave there with tears in my eyes because it breaks my heart that they are not given the respect they so deserve!! We need to address this problem and NOW!!!

Here in the US it's an epidemic of sorts..

I couldn't have said it better myself. I'll add that the media (and alot of people) seems to have the idea that our soldiers are nothing more than murders. This is simply not true! I wish this would also change.

Many homeless veterans have substance abuse and/or mental health issues. When someone has substance abuse issues, people immediately lose interest and sympathy. It is virtually impossible to address addiction and mental health problems if someone is homeless, but no one wants to give anyone a "free" ride, even a vet.

My answer revolves more around people rather than a problem. The people of this great nation are being ignored. Our representatives are ignoring the very people that put them in office in the first place. Good luck to you, my friend.

Where to start? The obesity, the frankly appalling gun 'laws', the complete ignorance/arrogance of some of the population. The way America seems to be trying to take over the world or the america-is-the-best-at-everything attitude? (I am aware that not all Americans are like that, but the ignorant ones seem to be the best at getting heard, which reflects very badly on the many wonderful people that live there)

I think it is the lack of people wanting to work together. Too many people want to be on a "team" and only want to work on or with that team. We as a nation have seemed to have lost our ability to compromise. That to me is a huge problem. Look at congress for example. They are so unproductive because each side wants it their way and their way only.

We are paying a huge amount of money to politicians who do nothing but bicker. And it is not just the politicians. I see it everyday with common citizens.

Mental illness. We are ignoring this issue and it is costing us lives.

Veterans. They need our love and support once they come home. Illegal immigrants do not have the right to receive paid support before we take care of our veterans.

This is a good discussion question. Thank you for asking this.

Obesity. More people are suffering from things like cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes than there needs to be. Just like how smoking and drinking is a choice, getting obese is also a choice. EVERY.SINGLE.TIME... When you decide to put something into your mouth.Sure there are RARE cases of disease and conditions, but those just mean you need to work harder. Also while the effects of smoking and drinking are usually irreversible, obesity isn't nearly as permanent. All it comes down to is effort.

But sadly, the obese community spends more effort defending themselves with pseudoscience. And instead of "supporting" each other to get healthier. They're supporting each other to continue their lifestyle, and that anyone who suggests dieting or exercise is considered "evil" or prejudice against them. There's also some who believe we got hit by some genetic mutation over the past few decades that turned 1 out of 20 of us strictly in the USA into morbidly obese entities.

Yes, when a problem is RISING it usually means it's being ignored or not enough is being done to address it.

Instead of arguing how about a solution? All obese people share a portion of their meals with these starving children. A win for everyone! A starving child with abusive parents who are too busy doing drugs to go to the food bank or spend food stamps gets fed, an obese person feels good about dieting. Awwwww....what a great story.

The thing about rape is that it depends a lot on how it gets reported. Every country is different and culture also plays a large part on how it's treated. Many rape cases in India goes unreported. Probably more than the USA. We don't have the "family honor" sort of deal going on, plus we like pressing false charges on people for revenge. Countries like Sweden has a strict reporting policy therefore their reported rape crimes are high (Twice USA), even considering their generally above average gender equality.

But I'd doubt you'd be up for a debate on facts. I read an old post of yours stating how you believe genetics and metabolism plays a HUGE and I repeat HUUUUGE role in obesity. I laughed so hard, but didn't want to make a big deal out of it. You know who else I hear this from? Other morbidly obese people that don't want to go to the gym or cut their calorie intake.

So I think you're saying I hate fat people just as an excuse. You just don't want to accept my reasoning. Something called self-denial.

Actually Kaywinnet, we don't have the highest rate of rapes anything. And yes, the response to someone who rapes does in fact determine how high the rape is. Clearly if the majority is against rape that badly it means it can't be that common. Common sense tells you that.

And actually no one ever blames the victim. There's no rape culture going around. However, I'd like you to look up the just world fallacy, which would explain why some people ask what a victim was wearing. It would help to show you there's no rape culture, but rather it's human delusion.

And yes, I know, the just world fallacy is wrong. Haha, that's why it's called a fallacy.

I had the chance to leave my little comfort zone this Independence Day weekend to visit relatives in another part of the country. My goodness, you know what I think? Obesity and lack of education.

The people I encountered were fat. Even the kids. It was a very.. Sad sight. A family of 3 at Little Caesars, each eating their OWN large pizza while chugging their OWN 2-liter soda. Speaking to relatives and their friends (who were also fat) made me go dumb. I think their general outlook on higher education is that it's "Liberal brain washing machine that fills our kids with propaganda". I don't think there was a single college degree in that town. A lot of confederate flags though and A LOT of food on. I saw a guy couple of dudes  skinning a deer making jerky.

To think there's a large population of similar people in our country.

There are probably a bunch of issues being swept under the carpet right now. Especially with all the media focus on foreign wars and terrorist threat, it can be so easy to forget that the biggest "killers" in most Western countries are more likely to be poor healthcare, poverty, lack of education...and yet they receive a fraction of the attention and budget that defense does.

I also feel pretty strongly that we need to do something drastic about climate change pretty soon, but I don't see it happening considering all the businesses it would affect.
