What are the paradoxes of democracy?

It's supposed to be a system where the majority wins but at least for president the majority vote doesn't necessarily mean that they win because of the electoral college. The system allows anyone to run for president but unless they are inone of the two main parties there is no chance of winning (no one running outside of the democrat or republican parties has ever gotten an electoral vote)

That's only in the USA, there is no electoral college in most democracy's. The leader of the party with the majority of votes wins in Canada.
