Is the US State department right to warn its citizens not to travel to Europe, in the light of potential terrorist threats?

I think they are right but how many people listen to the warning is up for debate. I don't think it should be Europe but the Middle East and Africa for sure. All they can do is give a warning but I doubt it will do much good as most people don't listen to much our Government says anyhow.

It would be irresponsible not to issue warnings if it's thought an attack was imminent but there's sn element of crying wolf in many warnings.

I live in a bushfire prone area and if I evacuated every time some idiot hit the panic button I'd never stop running. The problem is that when there's a real emergency few people will take it seriously. And so it is with terrorist threats.

Basically US citizens are very unaware of political and social issues in foreign countries let alone the possibility of terrorist threats. US citizens in general are extremely complacent when it comes to traveling outside the US. I always recommend folks research, look up US State Department reports on traveling to certain countries, and talk to folks here from the country they are going to visit. I have spoken to folks and warned them repeatedly only to have them go off like it was a big adventure. Many have returned physically beaten; very ill; and emotionally devastated.
