Hitler was of the belief that only pure bred Germans should reside in Germany. All other people is his opinion were a drain on the society and a threat to the country.  The "pure" Germans were superior to all other nationalities, in his way of thinking.  This, of course, was not correct  but after Hitler had control, his countrymen were afraid to try to stop the Holocaust that he ultimately began. Those that did make the attempt to change what became a black time in history and were found out,  were also shipped off to be murdered.

Hitler killed the Jews and other groups of people because he felt that they were a inferior race. Hitler and the Nazi's believed in the theory of survival of the fittest and so they wanted to create a Germany that only contained their "kind". This would mean that they would have the strongest, smartest people to start to build an empire.
His views did not stop at Jews however as other groups were also targeted. The mentally and physically handicapped were also targeted as the Elderly, Catholics and Gypsies. Hitler wanted the German population to be blue eyed, have blonde hair and fair skin. Any one who didn't fit this criteria was not good enough.

Because of religious discrimintation. They were tortured because of their beliefs. He a had this twisted idea that there should be racial hygiene or something, in which only the race that deserved to live was spared was allowed to live and the others were sentenced to death. His belief was shown in the fact that he had ordered to have disabled children to be killed. So in other words he mainly discriminated against minorities, like homosexuals, psychiatric patients etc. And jews were also considered not deserving enough to live, so thats why he killed them. I guess about six million were murdered.

He killed so many people because it made him look powerful. He killed 400 brown shirts (his men) in one night because he was scared that they would become more powerful then him!
