The formal requirements for a person to run for presidential elections in the United States are the following:

He or she should be at least 35 years of age

He or she must have lived in the United States for at least fourteen years.

He or she must be a native born citizen of the United States. Not even a naturalized citizen of the country could qualify to run for the presidential election.

As far as informal requirements go, they aren't official but it is a notable trend among all the presidents of the United States. Every president is a white male. All of them have been Protestant Christians except for one. Most of them are of British origin. Most of them have attended college. Furthermore most of them were lawyers by profession previously. All of these are informal trends nevertheless they go on cementing their gravity in the flowing trend of the United States presidency.
