Pennsylvania is a state of United States of America. It has an area of 46,055 square miles which makes it the 33rd largest state and a population of 12,448,279 which makes it the 6th most populated state.

Pennsylvania is also known by the name Penn. There is a history behind this nickname or abbreviated name. Actually Charles II granted a charter of land to William Penn in the year 1681. This was actually a debt to his father Admiral Penn. That is why this place was originally known as Penn's woods or Pennsylvania. William Penn was the first person to establish a government here.
