Jalaluddin Akbar was the son of the second Mughal emperor Humayun and the grandson of Babur. Like his grandfather, he was a competent ruler, filled with the elements of valor and determination. His period is marked with many conquests, which were the result of his exceptional leadership. Inheriting the throne at the tender age of 13, Akbar presented his first challenge to the Hindu ruler Hemu in the second war of Paniput in the year 1566. The very next year, Akbar won the war, crushing the rivals to defeat. Five years later, Akbar won over the Rajputs by marrying a Rajput princess. The series of conquests did not stop when in the year 1573, another state named Gujrat was added to the Mughal empire. Seven years later, Akbar conquered Bengal and added it as one of the newest feathers in his conquest cap. While the decade of the 1580 still continued, Akbar further gained control of Kabul and in 1589 conquered the state of Kashmir. There were many further conquests during the reign of Akbar that widened the Mughal empire but this was the gist of the earlier conquests of his rule.
