On June 23rd 1894 Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David, was born to the Duke and Duchess of York, the future King and Queen of England. In 1910 Edwards father became king, King George V, and Edward became heir to the throne. In January 1931, while attending a friends house party, Prince Edward met an American woman, Mrs. Wallis Simpson. Although Mrs. Simpson was married, and already once divorced, over the next five years Prince Edward and Mrs. Simpson become good friends and, then, lovers. In January 1936 Prince Edwards' father, King George V, dies and Edward takes the throne. Later that same year Mrs. Wallis Simpson and her husband, Mr. Ernest Simpson, seperate and King Edward VIII rents a house for Mrs. Simpson in Regent's Park. With the desire to marry Mrs. Simpson, King Edward VIII appeals to the Cabinet which, in turn, rejects King Edwards plea. The British public learns of the Kings desire and, as Mrs. Simpson is both a married woman and an American, they are disapproaving. On December 10th 1936 the King signs the Instrument of Abdication and on December 11th 1936 the Abdication is endorced.
