The 14th amendment is used today to continue to end segregation over discriminating factors so if you have anything that you could be discriminated against for(skin color, religion, appearance, age) this amendment protects you from being unfairly treated. It is also used to strike down any laws that are denying you basic rights that are included in or implied by the bill of rights. It is also used to give us new rights to make sure we are equally treated. Lastly the 14th amendment is used as a guideline for laws to see if they are in line with the ideas included in the 14th amendment.
