The ancient city of Pompeii was destroyed in 79 A.D by the volcano, Mount Vesuvius. Pompeii was a city located a few days from Rome. It was situated in a land with rich soil. The climate was gentle and the land was good to live in. Though life was easy, the city was also a thriving business centre. The city was a regional centre for cloth making and dyeing.All the while the force that destroyed Pompeii was present in the form of Vesuvius, it had never erupted nor even threatened to erupt before.No one suspected that Vesuvius was an active volcano.There was not even any folklore or legend which hinted that it was a volcano, since it had never been known to have erupted. Deep within Vesuvius, pressure had been mounting.First indication came in early August  of 79 A.D. Some people heeded the warning and fled. Later in the same month, the volcano erupted. Pompeii was forgotten by the world and then rediscovered. A archaeologist namely Fiorelli did a lot of work on the ruins.The volcano's ash had helped to preserve the body shaped cavities of the once living people of Pompeii....
