The British Empire had a great desire for the fortunes that could be made by using the west coast of Africa for slave trade. The west coast was the earliest colonies but Gold and ivory also lured in the British. However, the risk of malaria, other diseases and almost unbearable climate, Europeans found it hard living in such a place. Although, as time passed technology improved and The Empire felt more comfortable with the risk of diseases as they had knowledge of how to prevent such things. This is when The British Empire started colonising the rest of Africa.
