The United Nations has a specialized agency for health called the World Health Organization or WHO. The main aim of the World Health Organization, as stated in its constitution in the second chapter, article 1, is to strive towards the attainment of the highest achievable levels of health for all people. The World Health Organization's constitution defines health as a state of physical, mental and social well-being. This means well being in all three aspects not merely one or two. The World Health Organization was established on the 7th of April 1948. WHO is governed through the World Health Assembly, by the 193 member states. The World Health Assembly comprises of the representatives from WHO's Member States. Approval of the WHO programme, the budget, and major policy decisions, are among the main tasks of the World Health Assembly.
