In ancient times India was ruled by great emperors like Asoka, Harsha Vardhana, Kanishka, Chandragupta Maurya, Samudragupta etc rulers. During their reign the Kingdom was comprised of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal and almost all Indian territories and kingdom was extended up to Sri. Lanka. When incompetent rulers began to rule the country the kingdom was disintegrated into small portions where the rulers were incompetent. The British rule paved the way to unite India into a single rule. After its independence small kingdoms were united and merged with Indian union. Thus India become the largest democratic country in the world.
