Her name is Upinderjit Kaur and she became finance minister for Punjab in 2010. On February 4 of this year (2011) there was another first, as Sushma Nath was appointed the first female finance secretary for all India, an even higher office. Of course India has already had a female Prime Minister (Indira Ghandi) but these new appointments show the growing public importance of women in India.
