When preparing a response to a church welcome you should try to keep it short and the language simple. Try not to repeat too much of what has already been mentioned in the welcome as it should be more like a response to the welcome that has just been delivered.

Here are some important points to consider when preparing a response:

- Thank the person who has given the welcome speech on behalf of the church and the congregation. Use this opportunity to make them feel welcome and appreciated.

- If the congregation have never met the individual before then give them a little more information about them, such as where they are from and what they do.

- Pick up on some of the points and topics they have raised in their speech. Perhaps try to make the points more localised so the people in the church are able to relate to them more. By asking to see the speaker's speech in advance, you can prepare an effective response and can even make suggestions to them on how to make their welcome more relevant to the local community.

- Keep your language very simple and the whole response very short. Also, it may be worthwhile to keep it informal.

- Upon closing, open the floor up to questions from the congregation for the guest speaker to answer.

- Once everyone has been concluded, close in the usual way by choosing a hymn or prayer that reflects the topics or issues that have just been talked about.
