G'day Answerangl,
Thank you for your question.
The grounds for impeachment are treason, bribery or other high crimes and misdemeanours. Former President Gerald Ford said "An impeachable offense is whatever a majority of the House of Representatives considers it to be at a given moment in history.
Bill Clinton was impeached in 1998 on charges of perjury, obstruction of justice, and malfeasance in office, arising from the Monica Lewinsky scandal and the Paula Jones lawsuit. He was acquitted by the Senate 55-45 in 1999.
Andrew Johnson was impeached in 1868 for breaking the Tenure of Office Act passed to protect the Secretary of War Edwin Stanton. He was acquitted by one vote. The US Congress later repealed the Tenure of Office Act and the Supreme Court found that it was unconstitutional.
Richard Nixon resigned in 1974 to avoid impeachment. The case against him was the strongest of any of the cases.
Regards
