Two Presidents had Impeachment proceedings. The House of Representatives recommended/voted for impeaching Johnson and Clinton. They were both acquitted by the Senate.

Only one president went through the whole impeachment process and another resigned before the process was finished

Johnson went through the whole process and was acquited (one vote short). Nixon resigned because he knew he would be found guilty. Didn't Clinton go through the whole process? Clinton was acquited?

Impeachment is NOT the process by which government officials can be removed from office. It is the first stage of a two-stage process to remove the individual. Impeachment is the equivalent of an indictment or a legal statement of the charges. It does not mean he has been found guilty of anything. In order to be removed from office, the official has to be convicted of the charges by the Senate.

Johnson and Clinton were the only presidents impeached, but impeachment is not all that rare. It has been applied to a varied group of government officials.

Nixon was never impeached!  He resigned before that could happen.  The confusion may be because a House Judiciary Committee voted for impeachment, but he resigned before the entire House of Representatives could vote.  No vote by the entire House, no impeachment.

Impeachment refers to removal of an official by the official's agreement. The impeachment of president is a rare event in the History of United States. Uptil now only two presidents have been impeached which are:
- President Andrew Johnson-Impeached in 1868.
- President Bill Clinton- Impeached in 1998.

Let me add.....impeachment does not always mean the "removal" of a United States President , necessarily. Both the presidents you give as an example were NEVER booted out of office. Impeachment is the "proceedings" in which the government goes through to "determine" if the president will be removed from office. There must be a vote on it. No American president has EVER been removed from office by Impeachment......Nixon resigned before they had a chance to impeach him.....he no doubt would have received enough Impeachment votes to be removed from office.
