8.55The answer above is incorrect, because the math was wrong. ((14-1)8) is 104, not 234.

Pooled Estimate Of Population Variance =

sp^2 = ((n1-1)s1^2 +(n1-1)s2^2)/((n1-1)+(n2-1))

n1 = 14
n2= 17
(s1)^2 = 8
(s2)^2 = 9

sp^2 = ((14-1)8 +(17-1)9)/(13+16)
=((13x8)+(16x9))/29
=(234 + 144)/29
=378/29
=13.03

Pooled Estimate Of Population Variance= 13.03
