The growing population across the planet is something that is unavoidable. It is an aspect of life that has both its advantages and disadvantages. Its advantages include the concept of more progress while disadvantages are focused around the population's demand.

The main advantages of a growing population include:

  • More progress
In populations that support free speech and a free society, the more people that there are, the more ideas that they can produce. These new people and new ideas help the world progress within technology, science and beliefs.

  • Genetic diversity
A growing population will create a genetic diversity. This is something that is particularly important when learning about diseases and disorders.

  • Larger workforce
More people means that more work can get done. A larger population also opens up the opportunities for new work and work roles to make an appearance.

It can be argued that some of these advantages have just been suggested as a counter argument of the disadvantages, i.e. The advantages would not be there if the disadvantages had not occurred in the first place. Some of these disadvantages may include:

  • Supply and demand
It has been suggested that the rate in which the population is growing, and therefore demand for products and services is growing, is far faster than the supply can be created. This continued process could, in time, lead to the supply running out before demand has been fulfilled.

  • Quality of life
With more and more people living on the planet, the services and products that are available need to be spread thinly. This means that only the people who can afford it are top of the list. The quality of life for others is significantly reduced as there is not enough to supply everyone.

The growing population, particularly the rate at which it is growing, is something that is seen mostly through its negatives.
