The Private Sector:

Organizations can also be classified by the nature of their ownership. Organizations such as elementary schools and prison systems are considered part of the public sector because they are controlled by the government. In fact, many such organizations have the word public in their names (such as public schools and public libraries), indicating that they are owned and supported by the government for the use of all. On the other hand, organizations such as manufacturing plants and stores are generally considered to be in the private sector because they are under private rather than governmental control.

The Public Sector:

However, in some countries of developed world and not developed world of organizations such as manufacturing plants is part of the public sector rather than the private sector. When East Germany became part of Germany in 1990, German Chancellor Helmut Kohl appointed a government official to privatize 8,000 ailing companies by selling the formerly state-controlled businesses to the private sector. And in some cases, private sector organizations operate public sector organizations, such as the private organizations that run the San Diego Zoo and the Philadelphia Zoo, two of the best-run zoos in the United States.
