A hero is a person who is fully aware of the risk of losing their life or of suffering severe consequences or they face down the trial and tribulations that would make others pull back yet they continue on to do the right thing. In my mind there are many every day heroes. They are the fireman and the policeman who go into a dangerous situations knowing that their life is at stake and still do not hesitate to act. They are the people with cancer who march bravely into their chemo treatment with a smile and a word of encouragement to their family. The hero is the person who daily faces the worst of living conditions and still faces each day and each challenge with determination and hope. A hero does not have to be the person who jumps in front of a moving car to save the little old lady. A hero is one who inspires us, challenges us to be better people and one who is selfless and willing to do what we would not do. One of the definitions given by the dictionary for hero is: A man noted for courage or nobility of purpose; one who has risked or sacrificed his life. Those are the people who deserve to be called hero.
Definitely NOT Obama and his Nobel Peace prize.....a ZERO not Hero.. Ok,excuse that pot shot' but, I am so frustrated with what is going on worldwide. I suppose my dog is a hero cause she waits patiently 10 hours everyday for me while I work then kisses me to death before she runs out to potty!! She's loyal, loveable and just PLAIN great...a quality rarely found!!
It's my belief that the term of hero has been misused and cheapened by the media for at least the past 50 years, from Vietnam to Afghanistan. It appears to be bestowed on on every troop wounded or killed in action. These personnel were once called battlefield casualties. Hero has lost its true value, that of recognizing an expression of admiration for someone or something done far in excess of their expectation of their duties. My God if there is one thing this country needs, it's heroes, those we can look up to and emulate, they are few and far between. I flinch when I hear the word meaninglessly used for a group of military personnel returning from a field of operations visibly unscathed by the experience of war. I love the military and would not begrudge "true" honorees the praise and gratitude they so undeniably deserve.
In general, I would say the people in the army fighting for our lives, police officers, nd firefighters
Anyone who saves a life or give their life. Grabbing someone by their shirt and saying saved your life (like they were going to fall)doesn't count. : ).also some inventors could be called heroes as their inventions have saved millions of lives like the rebreather invented to keep babies alive that were born to pre-maturely.simple invention for a friend who had a breathing problem became a life saver for millions of babies and adults. I guess it depends on how far back you look to decide who the ones are that are called heroes. People who give food to the starving are heroes even if they are not given medals for it. As Jesus said anything you do for the least of these you have done for me. A winter coat given to one that can not afford it can save a life.as the old saying goes the trash of some is the treasure of others. Those who donate their old clothes, items are actually helping to save a life or help to keep the hope up in others who have no hope preventing them from throwing their life away giving up.I guess you have to be in that persons shoes before you think that a donation or a coat actually helped you survive/saving your life. A person who actually grabbed you by your coat/shirt to stop you from stepping into traffic could be called a hero for if they did not take the action of grabbing you to stop you ,you would be how to say ran over by a city bus/flatter than a flitter/street pizza/dead or at least seriously injured.I guess the big hero question is if your the one who thinks they are a hero to you/yourself.
Anyone who puts their own life behind another. That includes a lot of people that most of us don't even think about every day.
Firemen, (some) Policeman, war heroes ( not just an enlisted soldier), Moms n' Dads everywhere, teachers of all kinds, inventors. The list is huge.
Of course, examples like Superman, Batman n' the like...even Lassie; tell us what we should expect in a "Super" sense. But not all heroes are exactly "Super". We're just ordinary people who sacrifice above & beyond for an others' benefit; Not our own.

Anybody who does something truly out of the way to benefit someone else's life. This would include the doctor who saved your life, the teacher who spent her weekends tutoring you, the search team who found the missing child, the volunteer who gave up their free time to feed the hungry, etc.
Anybody who aspires to further peace for the world. Maybe this is a peace threw patrol or by extinguishing a fire - maybe still it is diplomats or ambassadors, religious figure heads who try to bridge gaps for understanding between different ideologies.
The list is long.... A parent who is responsible and busts their butt to make sure their kids are as good as possible..... Sorry I can't be more accurate on it.

People That Risk Their Life To Save Children And Women In Abusive Relationships. We Should All Try To Be A Hero Let Someone Else Be Strong. Feel Loved .. Teach Them To Read.. Teach Them To Help Themself
Like Purpless says. All those unsung "heroes" who take care of others, either their own family or other people's.They go out night after night,no matter the weather,to offer succour to those less fortunate than themselves.
They might not be fighting for their country, but without them,God help the poor, down and outs, and the infirm

Being able to do what's right even when society considers it wrong
Parents need to be called heroes.
My mom
Anyone who is willing to give up their life to save others.
Like Superman, The Flash, Green Lantern etc etc etc. That's what heroes mean & deserve.
I think that people who dare to resist evil forces, and never yield to people is a hero
A person who is self-less and knows they could lose their life or it is dangerous, but they still do it. A Hero is a person who is brave, self-less, and has saved 1 or more lives that could have been lost. That's who I think would be called a hero and deserves the title.
