How did Lincoln react to the actions of General John C. Fremont and Daivd Hunter, who ordered all slaves in their areas freed under the First Confiscation Act?

Good question. At first they were put to work doing heavy work. That would be the run away slaves looking for freedom. Then the volunteer's that joined the service were treated differently then one would think. For one they had white officers in charge of them. If they got wounded. They were treated separately then whites. There was a hospitals in Bueford South Carolina that was set up for blacks. Of course you know there was no black doctors. As for your greeted question they were not welcomed. It important to know the North did not like blacks too. There was a town in Ohio that made 500 blacks move out of the town. Northen mill workers  did everything they could to keep black from being employed with there company..
