I'm having a 16th birthday party at my house in 2 weeks. I have no idea on what to do. I'm inviting guys and girls ages 8 through 18. I'm also on a VERY low budget so I can't do games or anything. Help?

I'm a little baffled that you have invited a bunch of people and you don't have one, single idea on what to do with them once they show up. How much of a limited budget do you have? Why do you have such a variety of ages?

And yes, you can do games. You can have a scavenger hunt; you can play Frisbee; you can play touch football; you can play basketball; you can play Charades or Hide and Seek. You can have a 3-legged race, pairing the older kids with the younger kids.

Don't have the party around lunch or dinner - they will be expecting a bunch of food. Have some chips and dip - make a cake or cupcakes. If you do cupcakes, you can set it up where everyone create their own cupcake toppings with different icing and toppings.

Lastly, ask your mom and dad what kinds of parties they had when they were younger and what they did during the party. You might be surprised at their answers. Good luck.

There is such a variety of ages because they are sibling of friends, and it would be rude to disclude them. And my parents barely have enough money to buy pizza and cake. My yard and house is pretty small, so having a scavenger hunt or hide and seek would be pretty hard... We do have a pool though, that will probably be the last resort if I can't come up with anything else

For what it's worth, when I was growing up, I would never think to invite the siblings of my friends - because they have their own friends and would be going to their own birthday parties. So, I don't get that you have to include everyone. That's just my two cents worth - especially when you're pinching pennies just to have your regular friends come over.

In addition, you can go to a park if there's one nearby for the outdoor activities.

If you have the younger kids come over, there's got to be someone that is watching them so be prepared for that.

Just go up to Walmart or someplace cheap and buy a bunch of balloons ! They're cheap ! Fill them up with water and have a big water balloon battle. Fun for all ages !

That sounds really fun! Make sure to play some music :)  If you have a mic I think it'd be really cool if you did some karaoke. If you could think of some kind of competition scenario, that's always fun. Boys against girls, or older against younger :) Truth or Dare and What are the Odds are my personal favorites, even though I don't think you could get that to work with a wide age range. But if you can that'd be awesome. Happy birthday!

Is it YOUR birthday or someone else?

I ask, because most people at 16 don't want to hang out with 8-year-olds.  Not to mention, games 16-18 would enjoy, would be too "old" for 8-12 year olds.

I think it's wonderful you're inviting the siblings of friends. I like Nina's answer very much.

Do you have any group games you can borrow from a friend such as Pictionary? Those kinds of games are fun for everyone and the younger siblings will feel so important being invited to play along and they can come up with some really good drawings too !

Another food item that's easy is cooking  marshmallows over a fire, even if you use just your grill with coals and everyone puts their marshmallow on a branch stick and roasts them and then you can all make s'mores which means you put the cooked marshmallow between two graham crackers with a tiny piece of Hershey's kiss chocolate and squeeze it all together! Everyone would love that.

Also, ask everyone to bring a snack like drinks or chips and fruit or cookies. . That way you don't have to come up with anything except paper cups and plates and napkins and you can even ask people to bring those . People really like to bring things to parties.

One of the cutest ideas I saw was when everyone decorated their own donuts. The donuts were bought plain and then the icing was made in a big bowl from confectioners sugar, which your mom may have , and a tiny bit of milk and a spoon of vanilla.. Be careful not to add too much milk-it only takes a TINY BIT of milk to make icing with a whole bag of confectioners sugar (called powdered sugar).

Stir it to make a white icing that everyone can spoon on their donut and then have chocolate chips, sprinkles, and  crushed cookies such as Oreos to sprinkle on top and have each topping in separate bowls to choose from .  That way it can be considered the birthday cake and everyone decorates their own donut. You can even ask people to bring things to decorate the donuts with.

I hope you have a good time. If you live in the USA let me know and I may be able to give you ideas where things are very cheap to buy.
