Studies are concluding that the Earth is in the midst of a sixth mass extinction, mostly at the hands of human progress. So then, where do the rights of humans to go forth and prosper overstep the boundary of what is right ecologically?

"What is right ecologically" implies that there is a higher authority than the combined will of humans.

So unless you believe in a deity ... If the majority of humans choose to commit self-extinction by ignoring science, I guess the ecology will restore itself after humans are gone.

Not really, Walt. No deities need apply.
"What is right ecologically" refers to those actions and conditions that conform to or enhance the natural balance of ecosystems on the earth.
I think its clear that the negative human effects on the earths collective resources has passed the tipping point of sustainability.
You are no doubt on point that whatever is left of earth's species will regain prominence once we're extinct. Roaches and molds and such.

Earth has been here for billions of years.

Its not going any place, you all are.

But not for more years than you can count.

Much like a child that grows up leaves home

to start on its own. Humans will some day leave

there home planet in search of a new life.
