The president is an individual, who leads an organization, company, trade union, country, etc. A president is expected to make the right decision for the well being of the organization, country or any other institution which he leads.

A compulsive compromiser usually makes a bad president. A president who does not live up to his promises, makes decisions which are not beneficial to his people, gives himself more importance is usually thought to be a bad president. The fundamental duty of a president is to do lead from the front and inspire his people by setting examples.

As an English term, the expression was initially applied to address a particular committee or governing body in Great Britain. Over the period of years this term started being used for political leaders as well.
