Woman were allowed to start voting in 1920. Because the Nineteenth Amendment was finally  ratified. It gave woman suffrage. Which means it gave woman the right to vote. To be specific it was ratified on August 26, 1920..

Women were allowed to officially vote in 1920, but other special accounts all owed them to vote earlier.

Though women have played an important role in politics and were even reigning monarchs in countries like Britain and Russia they were not allowed to vote till quiet recently. In fact in the Ultra conservative puritan society of Saudi Arabia they are still barred from voting at elections. The most recent country to grant women the right to vote was Qatar in the year 2007.

The first time ever that women were allowed to vote was in the year 1838 on the British Colony of the Pitcairn Islands in the year 1838. The island has a population of just forty six women. The first country to ever grant women the right to vote was New Zealand in the year 1893. This was bought about by the efforts of the Universal suffrage movement in New Zealand that was led by one Kate Sheppard.
