The main reason that America decided to drop an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan was for military reasons. Hiroshima was considered to be one of Japan's main military bases and a very strategically positioned city. It was conveniently placed in an area with several places of strategic interest. Both Hiroshima and Nagasaki were Japanese military headquarters.
The United States had to make the difficult decision to end the war. Although the US and Japanese were enemies in the war, bombing hundreds if not thousands of innocent civilians is not something that anyone can do easily. So America made the difficult decision to drop atomic bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima. They believed that if they did not strike when they did, then the Japanese would launch a full invasion of the US which would have killed approximately one million Americans and 500,000 Japanese. The US were not willing to risk these sorts of casualties and the bombing of Hiroshima helped to bring the war to a swift end.
Many people argue that American bombing of Hiroshima was in retaliation of the bombings at Pearl Harbour where lots of innocent Americans died. But by the end of 1945, Japan were on the brink of surrendering, and America wanted to make sure that they were not bothered by them again.
The use of atomic bombs did bring about the end of the war, but with the tragic loss of hundreds of Japanese lives and also the new threat of nuclear war hanging over the world. Dropping these bombs proved that a new era of weaponry and military was developing, ones that had the power to cause the extinction of the human race. There is now a global fear of these dangerous weapons but this fear is more associated with the actual use of these weapons because if just one were detonated, it would set off a chain reaction that would cause a global catastrophe.
Many bombs were dropped by many countries during this war. While civilian casualties were much more common in those times, and less common in modern wars, the US did not want those casualties. The Japanese integrated their military into their cities as a disguise, making them a difficult target. Much like modern middle eastern military's hide amongst their civilians.
There is no doubt that the amount of civilian casualties in Hiroshima was a disaster, but still ill in comparison to Hitler's unmatched innocent death count. Ending the war was about stopping the Hitler death machine, of which Japan were allies to.
Even though bombing was common in the war, and even the US was bombed at Pearl Harbor where innocent people died, nobody knew the exact impact of the Atomic Bomb. The US was NOT the first country to start the development of this bomb. The bulk of the technology came from German Scientists that fled Germany knowing the devastating world effects the bomb would have in Hitlers hands, and knowing that the US was the only other country with the resources to develop it BEFORE Germany.
The bottom line: The Atomic Bomb would have been used in the war regardless, it was simply a matter of who would develop it first. The devastating effects of this type of weapon were unknown in those times, and as a result of the use of these weapons they have not been used since.
Many countries have possession of Atomic and Nuclear weapons that would dwarf the bomb used in Hiroshima - the very possession of these weapons has inadvertently kept the peace by balancing power.
The fear today associated with these types of weapons is their use, but moreover the chain reaction that may occur from one country activating such a weapon. The results would be catastrophic on a global level.
Hiroshima was the end of a war, but it was the birth of a new era of weaponry capable of nearly extinguishing human existence. It is not a result of one particular country or person, race or color, religion or belief system. It is a result of science and technology.
The United States had to end the war and the only was was to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki. If we did not bomb them, we would have had to invade, which would have killed 1 million Japanese people and half as many americans. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were military headquarters.
There were several collective aspects that played their role in deciding America to bomb the particular city of Hiroshima. During those days Hiroshima was considered as a strategic city and there were numerous places of strategic interest that were there and it is for this reason that America had chosen Hiroshima as its target to drop the bomb.
The strategic installation that could be found over there included the Fifth division's headquarters and the headquarters of Second General Army. The headquarters of the Second General Army was of particular interest for the Americans as it was this headquarter that was in command of the defence covering all the southern part of Japan. Hiroshima was also the communication centre for the Japanese Army and it has some other strategic points also. It is for this collective reason that America selected Hiroshima to be bombed and destroy Japan.
The americans believed japan would never surrender. If the us wouldnt have dropped the bomb thousands of americans lives would have been ost in an invasion on japanese mainland, and it would have cost more to invade. Some americans thought they needed to be taught a lesson because they were cruel to prisoners of war. They picked hiroshima because it is a military base. And when the japs attacked Pearl Harbor they killed 3,500 people, civilians and soldiers. So F em.
The majority of the people working in the Kure shipyard lived in Hiroshima. The Kure shipyard was within 15 miles of Hiroshima. The Kure shipyard built the battleship Yamato and several other large warships. This entire area was largely industrial. This is the strategic reason why we chose this target.
No ACTUALLY the main reason's.. Because there isn't just one...is because america thought overall that japan were a threat and were never willing o back down.. At the time japan could have been thinking the exact same thing as the americans..either invade or.. Bomb.. But america grew the balls first...it wasnt a game of chess it was a game of guts... And unfortunatly in war civililian casualtys are common but because a common war just doesnt happen just like that this day and age civilian casualtys today are frowned upon.. But if it had been world war 1/2 then the casualtys wouldnt have matterd nor been a reason for arguemnt but jus merly accpeted and put on a plaque!!...we as a human race do it to our selfs!... And purposely do it to each other .. Its a simply fact of each to thier own.. Wih is dicivded by borders!!.. Religion or maybe colour!!its as simple as that think about it!!...
When japan attacked pearl harbor they killed 3500 americans mostly soldiers...when america attacked hiroshima they killed more than 200 000 lives, mostly civilians...it doesnt matter who started, its just wrong...bloody americans.
You people that are haters of america need to do some history look up what happened what if it was your country and japan killed innocent lives were you live!
To bring the war to a swift and quick end. However it was tragic that so many innocent lives were lost, but that is what happened all during the second world war to all countries involved.
The reason us drooped the bomb is becouse They did not want any one else from us to die it is as simple as tht but it did hurt a lot if Innocent people
No the reason was because th japanese wouldent back down so the americans droped a bomb so the could end the war. If they wouldent of the war would of been much worse!!
The amreicans were lazy. Japan was alraedy crumbling and they should have comrpomized but the us really really wanted a total surrender instead of a regular one. Japan wanted to keep its emporor. Also the us was showing off for russia.
