After Aurangzeb captured the emperorship for himself, he sent his father into exile and killed his brothers. During his rule the empire increased in its size but there were many other issues that emerged. The armies were not developed and nor were their weapons, there was a lot of corruption amongst the bureaucrats and rebellion by the people who lived in the different states. The armies of the mughals also fought with pashtuns in Afghanistan and this resulted in weakened foundations of the military. As a result of all this, the mughals lost their powers and that was when the decline became inevitable.
