The British caused nationalism in India by taking over their country. They were trying to break the dutch control on spice trade and over time they were gaining more and more control until they were taking control of India. The Indian soldiers in the northern states became unemployed because the British took over. The Indian soldiers working in the British army were forced to do things that offended them. The British also taxed the Hindu temple and Muslim mosques.
