The Black Death, also known as Bubonic Plague, was basically incureable. During the 1300's and again in the 1500's it wiped out a large percentage of the population of Europe. At the time there was no known cure, although Nostradamus had some success with helping people live through the disease. Since the cause of the Plague was determined to be bites from infected fleas, we now have been able to achieve control over the cause. Back then, they did not know how the disease spread or what caused it, so it was particularly deadly.
