A 2005 census recorded a population of around 1,103, 371,000 in India.

Its proper name is the Republic of India and it is located in South Asia. It is the seventh largest country in the world and the second most populous! The old saying, 'In India, you are never alone,' seems to be true.

The contribution of India to world culture and commerce cannot be overstated. Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism originated in India. Today, Islam, Christianity, Judaism and Zoroastrianism are also a part of the rich cultural tapestry. Decorative arts and tea have long been major exports. India has the fourth largest economy in terms of purchasing power and the second fastest growing economy.

An excellent resource is John Keay's newly released book India: A History. With India's extraordinarily rich history, it's hardly any wonder that the book is over 500 pages long - complete with pictures and maps.
