I'm retired now, but when I was working we did a variety of things for the holidays. Just about every unit had a small Christmas tree, and each area would be decorated. There would be one big Christmas party off-site that any employee could attend. We also had a program called "Helping Hands". It was a way we would be able to aid less fortunate employees for the holidays. There is also an "Adopt a Family' program sponsored by our regional newspaper, and individual units might choose a family and provide some holiday cheer for a family that would otherwise have a joyless Christmas.
In addition each unit would have its own party, either on the premises or at a local establishment. We had a lot of seasonal employees who would be in non-work status at this time of year, and we would invite them to join in the festivities with us. As a manager, I would get a small gift for each of my employees, and we would exchange gifts at our unit party. We did not get bonuses, but we were given a half day off with pay, and if the holiday were on a Thursday or a Tuesday, we would be given that Friday or Monday off with pay. All in all, it was a lot of fun.
