Wilsonianism is a term which is used to define a particular kind of thought or ideology concerning the area of foreign policy. The term is derived from the principles of former United States President Woodrow Wilson, and his famed Fourteen Points which he thought would aid the creation of world peace if executed.

Traits or characteristics which are frequently termed as 'wilsonian' in nature consist of the following:

Supporting the spread of democracy and democratic values
Advocating self determination amongst ethnic minorities
Being against isolationism, favouring intervention to aid the establishment of peace and the freedom.

On the whole, Wilsonian traits are generally typified as being stemmed from kindness and principle, instead of sole self interest and fear. Although, they are actually extremely encouraged by self interest.
