My mother spent 2 years in "Operation Desert Storm" with the National Guard. She always requested a package of wet naps, chapstick, sunblock, deck of cards, rub on bug guard, anything to make hot, dusty climate more comfortable. Me- I'd pack him/her a hand held electronic football game, small enough to pack in gear. My mom concurs....
My cousin served and just got home. While he was out we sent him a lot of things but he really enjoyed certain foods. Send him the current news paper and simple little things, that we take for granted.
I would say from people I talk to is the little things like razors toothpaste and small stuff that they might not be able to get while they are over there. Good luck and god bless our troops.
Give him things that make him comforted, or bring up good memories. Pictures are always great, and a note is a personal and thoughtful gift. Give him things that he loves. This may sound obvious, but think about it. Does he play a sport? For example, if he likes to play soccer, send him with a soccer ball. Letters are, in my opinion, the most personal way to communicate with someone.
This could be a crazy suggestion, but what about personalized M+M's? It's a fun and meaningful way to tell your little brother you love him. Go to:
