The United States Secretary of Interior under the Clinton administration was Bruce Edward Babbitt. He held the office from the 22nd of January 1993 to the 2nd of January 2001. As the Secretary of the Interior he had been preceded by Manuel Lujan Jr. and had been succeeded by Gale Norton. He was also the Governor of the state of Arizona from 1978 to 1987.

Babbitt was born on the 27th of June 1938 in Los Angeles California. He studied at the University Of Notre Dame and later at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. He also received a degree in law from the Harvard Law School.

Babbitt also had trouble with Native Indians and environmentalists in Arizona over the Snow bowl Ski resort. He has also written a book "Cities in the Wilderness: A New Vision of Land Use in America".
