Gosh mostly during the war, WWII that is, but growing up in Canada, in the 60's we still had practice air raids. When you heard the sirens go off, you had to run indoors close all the curtains and close off all the lights. As well, there used to be fire alarms on the lamposts when I was a kid because most people did not have phones. The numbers used to be three digits. Wild eh! We have come a long way.
