World War II began after Adolf Hitler's Nazi Germany initiated a military campaign against Poland on September 1, 1939. The attack amounted to a full-fledged invasion of an independent country. While many Western leaders, such as British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, followed a policy of appeasement, which had tolerated Hitler's prior invasion of Austria and Czechoslovakia, the attack against Poland proved to be the last drop in the proverbial bucket. As such, Britain, France, Australia and New Zealand all declared war against Germany on September 3, 1939. The Soviet Union only joined in the fight against Nazi Germany in 1941, as it had earlier signed a non-aggression pact with Hitler and even occupied the eastern parts of Poland following the successful German assault.

As was expected by all who had opposed the policy of appeasement, Hitler was not satisfied with simply conquering Poland. The Fuhrer also attacked France, Belgium, Norway, the Netherlands, Yugoslavia and Greece, while he initiated an unsuccessful aerial bombing campaign against Britain. The United States was also brought into the war, following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour on December 7, 1941.

World War II lasted from 1939 to 1945. The war was the direct result of the discontent that was felt worldwide on account of the economic depression, post World War I. The economic and political implications of the First World War made the people of nations like Germany and Italy lose faith in the governments. They voted into power dictators like Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini. These dictators initially worked to revive the insulted and wounded economies and thereafter, they embarked upon fulfilling their personal ambitions. This included territorial expansion and secret alliances to prove their stance as world powers.
The immediate causes of World War II was the German invasion of Poland in 1939. Simultaneously, in the east, the Japanese attacked and began invading China and Manchuria and the various smaller colonies held by the United States of America, the British and the Dutch. In each of these situations, the attacks made were the result of vital decisions taken by the authoritarian dictators ruling the Axis Powers. Nevertheless, the invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany in 1939 and the resultant breach of the understanding of alliance that the Allies had signed with Germany. The secret alliances were then annulled and the animosity increased between the Allied and Axis powers and the result was World War II.

World War 2 started on the 1st of September 1939 when Germany invaded Poland. However, Japan and China had been fighting since 1937. On the 7th of December 1941 the US joined the war, when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbour. On Monday the 7th of May 1945 Germany surrendered and on Tuesday 14th of August 1945 Japan surrendered.
Germany invaded Poland because Adolf Hitler wanted more land and to expand Germany in the east.  Britain told Germany they had no right to invade Poland but Hitler used the Versailles Treaty, which was established at the end of the First World War as an excuse.
Hitler also used the excuse that German speaking people in Poland were being persecuted by the Polish Government. Hitler wanted all German- speaking people to be in one Nation.

The World War 2 is the most devastating and horrific event in the human history. Its main reasons lie with the European states of United Kingdom & France, who did not agree on most of the their policies on Germany. After the 1st war, Germany had been reduced to a broken state by the victors, who in post-war time were unsatisfied with their gains which included Japan & Italy. The formation of the League of Nations meant that the countries were depending more on their diplomacy to finding a safe and anti-war policies for settling their disputes.
With the rise in Fascism in Italy, it was clear that this movement would move on to other countries, which at that time was called as the only true Anti-Communism faction. Soon Adolf Hitler started preaching fascism in Germany who at that time was not well known. He promised the German people more land to live and that he would dissolve at treaties with the European nations. When in 1930 depression hit Germany, the national party members were not able to take any decisions which made the people move to the Nazi party for help. After many subsequent moves and series of deception in 1933, Hitler declared himself 'chancellor'. Italian dictator Mussolini supported him and in 1938, Hitler moved his armed forces to Austria for German Expansion.

WW2 started because Adolf Hitler was slowly going against the Treaty of Versailles, by invading countries, and militarising the Rhineland, etc. The final straw for England and France was the invasion of Poland, when they realised their policy of appeasement (to let Germany get away with small things, like militarisation, and a treaty with Austria), was not working, because Germany kept taking more.

It started because Hitler got into power and then started going against Treaty of Versailles. Well actually, he did a lot to break the rules before England and France ect acted but they were still suffering from the effect of WW1 and wanted to avoid another war at all costs so they sorta stood back and let him (although a fair bit of the happenings in Germany they had no clue about). Until he invaded Poland, which is when Churchill declared war on Germany.
( I think that's sorta , if you want to go into more detail I suggest good ole fashioned research - ie google :P) lol I'm stull studying it atm but the course I'm doing only really covers the why and how Hitler got into power and then his dictatorship, rather than the actual war and fall of the Nazis. Hope it helped anyway :)
