This was indeed one of the saddest things to happen in history, I used to say that if I was ever to meet Hitler, I would take pleasure in killing him. But, now that I am older, no, I would have turned him in, and let the law and public ridicule get to him. He was a very sick human being, so filled with hate. Sad.

In the camps, there were 5.9 million Jews killed, Soviet POWS, 2-4 million, ethnic poles, 1.8-2 million, Roma 220,000-500,000,  disabled 200,000 -250,000, freemasons, 80,000-200,000, homosexuals 5,000-15,000, Jehovah's witness 2,500-5,000.
Sad thing about this is there were probably more than this as these are only as accurate as they could get. There were records that were destroyed during all of this, so there is no way to be accurate about this. Hope this helps, good luck to you.

Although the true figure may never be known, here are estimates:

  • 11 million people died.
  • 6 million of these were Jewish (close to two thirds of Europe's Jewish population).
  • Up to 250,000 were Roma/Sinti (Gypsies).
  • 1.5 million were children.

The Holocaust was the systematic persecution and genocide by Nazi Germany and its collaborators of the Jews and other minority groups throughout World War Two (1939-1945). These other groups included Romany gypsies, people with physical and mental disabilities, communists, homosexuals and other nationalities considered 'racially inferior' by the Nazis, including Poles, Serbs and Russians. The Jews were the biggest victims, murdered under the Nazi's 'Final Solution of the Jewish Question'. The usual estimate for the number of Jews killed in the Holocaust is six million. Up to two million non-Jewish Poles are also thought to have been killed and up to an estimated three million from the other minority groups targeted in the Holocaust.

The Holocaust was systematically conducted in most areas of Nazi-occupied territory. Many were killed in specific death camps between 1942 and 1945, usually by being poisoned in gas chambers. The largest death camp was Auschwitz-Birkenau in Poland, responsible for the deaths of an estimated 1.6 million Jews. Prior to the death camps, killings were mainly by shootings. The Holocaust, authorised by Hitler himself, is believed to have been centrally planned by senior Nazi officials at the Wannsee conference held near Berlin on January 20 1942.

In addition, Hitler targeted homosexuals, communists and other
political dissidents, , slavs, Jehovah's Witnesses, dissidents, some
Protestant pastors and Catholic priests, black people, the mentally and
physically disabled, and others. The figures include the camps as well
as the mass graves in the countryside, killings on the street,
organized mass shootings (such as Babi Yar, etc.) and basically, any
person singled out for their religion, political beliefs, or their
sexual orientation.

One of my friends' ancestors died in it. He told me the story of his great grandma's death: One morning after having breakfast, the two Jones sisters went to their school house. Upon reaching their home, They found that their parents were gone, as you know, this was the time of Hitler. For three years, they waited, hoping that their parents would be okay. One night, Nazi soldiers came to their house and took them to death camps. There, they were reunited with their parents(they were Jewish). One morning the two girls and their mother watched, filled with tears, as their husband and father was beaten half to death because he disobeyed a soldier. He had bruises all over his body, and he was bleeding everywhere. Seven months later, after he had recovered from the beatings, he went and strangled an unsuspecting guard. He was soon sentenced to death, one year before the end of the war. His family watched as they tied him to a pole and they drove a car over him. He had tire tracks on his chest and face, in his hand was the Jewish star, he had worn all his life. It is really sad, but his family made it out alive, but the younger Jones sister died of some disease, I'm not sure which one. To get more accurate info on the total deaths, maybe you can check out tiggersmom's answer or Holocaust.com

The Holocaust was between 1942-1945. Over six million JEWS, yes just jews died. Over four million other people died. That means over 1,000,000,000 people died. So sad!

Millions upon millions, the number is so high and there is also the factor that a lot was kept hidden and we will never know as their are no survivors to look for the ones who were missing, as they may have died themselves.  An awful thing the holocaust.  Many have tried to commit genocide, which means the elimination of a total race but failed.  Wish they would stop trying, live and let live

To Jacquelyn Mathis - you try to give the impression that you are quite well informed as to the deaths of various groups, yet right from the start regarding the Jews, your statement is completely false.  Not only was the death toll at Auschwitz concentration camp officially reduced by a massive 2.5 million in 1990, (which already brings the often cited figure of 6 million down to 3.5 million) but the incorrect and massively exagerrated figure of 6 million(or 5.9 million as you state) supposedly included ALL Jewish deaths, including OUTSIDE the camps, not only in the camps, as you state.  With mistakes like these, how can anyone take the figures given by yourself as accurate?
The actual death toll of Jews during WWII is now regarded to be in the region of approximately 800 000 having died from ALL causes, including disease, starvation, and even old age.  Very few were intentionally murdered, as there was no programme of extermination.  This is a complete fallacy. The number of others who died in the 'holocaust' is not accurately known, but is probably in the region of a few hundred thousand.
Let's face it, there are answers on this thread which state 100 Billion deaths, 5 million, 50 million, etc, etc.  If you want the truth, go to www.ihr.org and search their archive, or simply check any of a number of websites on the internet.  The answer however, is certainly not 6 million Jews.  That figure has been discredited decades ago, and is only supported nowadays by certain Jews, Zionists, and those who would seek to profit financially from perpetuating the myth that this number of Jews died in the 'holocaust'.

The number of people that died during the holocaust was been highly over rated for political reasons the real number doesn't exceed couple of thousands (all independent researches proved this fact)

The roots of the holocaust were set in the 1930's as Hitler began his persecution of the Jews. By the timeline of the beginning of WW2, 1939, The persecution had intensified to violence, restriction, and imprisonment. By the beginning of the 1940's relocation and extermination became a verified goal, and the mass extermination was in the works. It continued through the war, and when the Russians reached German Territory they found the first Death Camps, later Allied forces everywhere were finding them; 1945. 6 million people, mostly Jews were murdered. Men, Women, & Children. Of course news had been slipping out about the crimes, and migration of Jews to Palestine began. The Germans stole all the posessions and property of the Jews. They herded them like animals into railcars for cattle. When these Jews arrived at the camps they were told they were to shower for 'delousing'. These 'showers' were thinly disguised gas chambers. They were gassed en masse, and then their bodies burned to eliminate the evidence. This is only one of many horrifying scenario's.
