The impact on the country was dynamic. Anger between the North and South intensified once again. The north now wanted to punish the south. The north passed the Wade Davis bill, requiring 50% of the south to swear allegiance to the union as well as unequal treatment to southerners. Reconstruction slowed under poor new leadership. The new president, Andrew Johnson, was a southerner, and the radical republicans hated him. Through it all, Booth was eventually found hiding in a barn and was executed on the spot. America will never forget what happened to one its greatest and most brilliant presidents that went down in American history.
